Once Saint Namdev was giving a discourse of knowledge-devotion to his disciples. Then a disciple sitting in the audience asked a question, "Teacher, we are told that God is present everywhere, but if so why is He never visible to us, how can we believe that He is real, and if He If so how can we get it?
Namdev smiled and ordered a disciple to bring a pot of water and a little salt. The disciple immediately brought both the things. Said, "Son, you put the salt in the pot and mix it." ,
The disciple did exactly that.
The saint said, "Tell me, can anyone see salt in this water?"
Everyone shook their heads in 'no'. "Ok!, now someone just taste it, do you feel the taste of salt?", asked the saint. "Yes", a disciple said while tasting the water.
“Okay, now just boil this water for some time.”, instructed the saint.
The water continued to boil for some time and when all the water evaporated, the saint again asked the disciples to look into the pot and asked, "Now do you see anything in it?" "Yes, we can see the salt particles. Have been.”, said a disciple.
The saint smiled and explained, "Just as you could feel the taste of salt in water but could not see it, in the same way you cannot see God everywhere in this world but you can feel Him." And just as water evaporates from the heat of fire and salt becomes visible, in the same way you can achieve God by ending your disorders through devotion, meditation and good deeds.
